Clear Lake California Fishing


Fishing on beautiful Clear Lake has something for every angler’s passion. Starting off with the king of the lake, the large mouth bass, and going all the way down to the bottom-dwelling catfish, Clear Lake fishing has something for everyone from top to bottom. Clear Lake is known for its large surface area and this plays well into the anglers fishing day, to say the least. With only light tackle and maybe a tackle box of lures, a fisherman can have a field day on the beautiful lake. Clear Lake is known for its cleanliness and environmentalism by the residence that surround the lake. This is true from the north side of the lake all the way down to the southerly south end which by the way is rumored to be where the big bass are!

Fishermen looking for the next word record worldwide bass may have to travel a little father south for that, but there are wonderful catches between 3-4 and sometimes 5-6 pound large mouth bass from a day of Clear Lake fishing! As anyone who is familiar with catching large mouth bass knows a 3-5 pound large mouth bass if definitely a lunker and a fight of the day. The species of fish that reside in Clear Lake are large mouth bass, brim and catfish. Those are the main game fish species in the lake and provide for excellent fishing year round. A day fishing on Clear Lake is one that will not be soon forgotten by the avid angular.

Large mouth bass were introduced to the lake not to long ago as they were not native to any parts of California until late 1990's. A fishing program, overseen by the California Game and Fish Commission, stalked area lakes in California with fingerling large mouth bass from Florida and Georgia lakes and rivers. The result was wonderful, large mouth bass and many of them! Large mouth bass get along very well with the brim and catfish population seeing that they can feed on the brim population and pretty much the catfish to themselves, watch out for those fines! Cat-fishing on Clear Lake is one that would definitely be a good source of protein as there is nothing better than fried fresh catfish or even broiled catfish on the grill. The nutritional value of eating fish can not be overlooked and goes well with a glass of white wine.
